Additional training for schools
All school staff should complete a course in child protection. This is an Ofsted requirement.
In addition, schools should ensure that their designated child protection teachers have received training, including refresher training. Schools should also ensure training for the whole school.
Training for Designated Safeguarding Leads
Every school and Ofsted registered Childcare Setting must have a Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) who has attended a full-day training course on child protection. Following this initial training, DSL’s are required to attend a refresher course every two years.

Training for the whole school
Every member of the school’s staff needs to attend a whole-school child protection training course which should take place at the school every three years.
Schools are responsible for arranging and funding their own whole-school training.
Child Protection training for governors
As part of the training offer for governors, Governor Services provide a course with the latest guidance on the governing body’s roles and responsibilities for safeguarding children in schools. On completing the course, participants receive a certificate of attendance for Ofsted verification.

Training for childcare staff
Providers must train all staff to understand their safeguarding policy and procedures, and ensure that all staff have up to date knowledge of safeguarding issues. Therefore we organise a number of courses that are suitable for practitioners.
